The Hudson Valley Renegades game was Rosie’s debut as a therapy dog. She exceeded my expectations and made me very proud.
The entire experience was really very rewarding . I had the honor and privilege of meeting many veterans and their families. A number of the people we met were members of Gold Star families, which I quickly learned were families who made the ultimate sacrifice by losing a loved one in military service. It was such a pleasure to speak with these people while they pet Rosie and thank them for their service to our country. It was also very touching to watch Rosie bring smiles to the faces of all those she encountered one tail wag or wet kiss at a time. It was also very moving to see how relaxed those that pet her became. Rosie and I heard some very touching stories. Some were about military service and some were about those who had recently lost a pet. It was so awesome to see how therapeutic it was for those people to pet Rosie while they shared their stories. I now saw first hand how therapy dogs do make a difference and spread happiness one paw at a time. Thank you Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause for arranging for our group to attend this event. Dolores, thanks so much for this charming short story. When I had a bad fall, Judy spread the word that I was now in a rehab hospital and oh how the therapy dogs showed up, day after day giving kisses and encouragement. I wrote a book titled At Your Service where owners wrote about what their dogs meant to them.
Right now I’m writing a Christmas story and I included a pup.
